Brazilian striker Adriano has announced a break from his soccer career and a period of meditation, regarding his future. After many press-driven rumours and stories about his behaviour, the Brazilian star decided not to return to his club in Italy after the final matches of the World Cup Qualifiers. Adriano says that he wanted to have peace of mind and happiness, saying that both are more important than money. "I've lost the happiness of playing," he explained to reporters.

The non-profit organization called Nike Foundation is joining leaders in an effort to create awareness of the importance of gender equality. For the first time, a symposium will be held in Brazil in order to encourage men and boys to empower girls. The name of the event is "Global Symposium on Engaging Men and Boys in Achieving Gender Equality." It is focused on exposing research and methods to reduce violence against women, to promote sexual and reproductive health, HIV/AIDS prevention and fatherhood. US Airways has been awarded route authority to the Rio de Janeiro International Airport. The tentative route will go from the Philadelphia airport to the Charlotte, N.C and from there to Rio de Janeiro. US Airways will use their Boeing 767 aircrafts for these flights. Service is to be started during the fall of 2009 depending on the U.S. Department of Transportation's finalization of the award to the airline.

This weekend, the Brazil on the Beach Festival will celebrate Brazilian traditions and sports such as Pro Footvolley tournament, capoeira and kids' drumming workshops, Brazilian delicacies, films and much more. The festival starts on Friday 20th at 9 a.m. and continues all the way to Sunday night. There is no fee for the festival and it will be located at the Boardwalk on Hollywood Beach. The Brazilian Supreme Court has ruled in favour of the Brazilian Indians by maintaining the zone of Roraima as an Indian reservation. The Indians will now have control over their territory, which means that rice farmers with plantations in the area will have to leave. The Raposa Serra do Sol reservation is about 1.7m hectares (4.2m acres) and it is home to up to 20,000 Amazonian Indians. While the ruling might create a conflict between the rice farm owners and the Indians; this ruling is a sign that the government is trying to preserve and help the Indigenous community.
